Illinois Medical Card Overview

Get your Illinois Medical Card now from a doctor’s clinic that you can trust! Our patients can now use their own medical insurance to be patients at our primary care clinic. After two visits, the physician can recommend you for the Illinois Medical Card.

There are 2 Programs in Illinois (OAPP and MCPP). Both are different, but OAPP is for 3 months and MCPP is for 1-3 years. Also, qualifications are very different. We recommend MCPP if you have a qualifying condition on the condition list and OAPP if you do not have one of those qualifying conditions (but also get prescribed opiates):

OAPP or Opioid Alternative Pilot Program

To qualify, you must:

  1. Be 21 years of age or over.
  2. Must have been prescribed an opiate within the last year (Norco, Vicodin, Oxycontin, Suboxone, Tramadol, and many others) or have a condition that warrants an opiate, based on generally accepted standards of care.*
  3. Have a bona fide patient-physician relationship.**

If you have these three qualifications, you can get your medical cannabis card. The application cost is $10, and you are certified for 3 months, after which you will need to make another appointment to get re-certified.

*A condition that warrants an opiate includes migraines, chronic neck or back pain, trigeminal neuralgia, intractable pain, neuropathic pain, musculoskeletal pain, pelvic pain, endometriosis, joint pains, shoulder pain, post-operative pain, etc. But, you must have medical records showing you have seen a doctor for this condition and you have this condition (we do not make these diagnoses for you unless you see our primary care providers).

**Bona fide patient-physician relationships mean that you must see us at least twice to get your medical card. You do not already need a bona fide patient-physician relationship (you can create that relationship), we just want to be clear that we’ll have to see you twice in order to get your card.

Cost for OAPP:

  1. Doctor visit #1* – We take these medical insurances.
  2. Doctor visit #2*
  3. Illinois Application Fee $10

*If we do not take your insurance, you qualify for the Self Pay Plan, which is $175 per visit. Normally, a patient-physician relationship takes at least 2 visits.

The good news is, this is affordable, but the bad news is, it only lasts 3 months. If you have been prescribed an opiate in the last year, you qualify for an appointment on-line. Click here.

MCPP or Medical Cannabis Pilot Program

  1. Any Age
  2. Must have a qualifying condition (most common Spinal Cord Disease like herniated disc, PTSD, Cancer) – see list here
  3. Have a bona fide patient-physician relationship (see above) – We need 2 visits to fulfill this

If you do not have a qualifying condition, but you feel you have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or post-concussive syndrome, you may get one:

Cost for MCPP:

  1. Doctor visit #1* – We take these medical insurances.
  2. Doctor visit #2*
  3. Illinois Application Fee (Illinois charges you $99, $200, or $250 for 1, 2, or 3 year certifications, respectively or half if you are on disability or are a veteran).

That’s it. NO MORE FINGERPRINTING! NO MORE PROCESSING FEES! So, imagine, if you use your insurance and have hit your deductible, you will need to pay $99 for your Illinois Medical Card (you only pay the state fees)!

With insurance, Innovative Express Care is the most affordable place to get your card in Illinois.

*If we do not take your insurance, you qualify for the Self Pay Plan, which is $175 per visit. Normally, a patient-physician relationship takes at least 2 visits.

The total cost to get an Illinois Medical Card here in Illinois depends on your insurance, but for a 1 year application not including doctor’s fees, the total cost is: $102.35 ($102.35 for Illinois certification for 1 year with their processing fee) or if you are on disability or are a veteran, the total is $51.18 ($51.18 for Illinois 1 year certification with processing fee). To our knowledge, we are the only office that takes insurance for your physician visits.

By the way, this is a one-stop-shop for you to get your application sent to the Illinois Department of Public Health. It is also the most cost efficient. WE TAKE MOST COMMERCIAL INSURANCES for OAPP and MCPP.
