Relieve Anxiety during COVID-19

Innovative Therapy team shares tips for finding joy with family and friends during this uncertain time

The COVID-19 pandemic rapidly changed our day-to-day lives and has caused many people to feel anxious and unsettled. It is undoubtedly a difficult time in our country, yet slower days can allow us time to rest, reset, prioritize and be more present in our lives. See below for tips from the Innovative Express Care therapy team, on how to set your worries aside for a bit and find solace in things you may not have had time for previously. Above all, socialize while social distancing. Maintaining good mental health is key to getting through this period in our lives.

Socialize while Social Distancing – Virtual happy hours, family dinners and birthday celebrations have moved online during this time. Use technology to start your own daily gathering with family and friends. Cheers!

Take a walk daily – The weather may be brisk, but the cool crisp air can feel good and offer a refreshing break that is good for your mental health.

Play baseball in the yard – Spring training may have been postponed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t brush up on your own skills. Toss the ball around in the yard, have some batting practice and get some fresh air.

Enjoy family game night – Bust out the board games and play a childhood favorite with your kids. Have fun together as a family and forget about things for a while.

Read a book – Now is the time to get lost in a book. Better yet, start an online book club with friends.

Begin a daily meditation practice – Everyone can benefit from anxiety-busting activities right now. Set aside 15-minutes each day for silent meditation.

Tune-in for an online yoga class – There are yoga classes on demand and online for you to enjoy. Find some time for peace and relaxation each day. Namaste.

Journal – Jotting down your thoughts, worries, and things you are most grateful for, is a wonderful way to reflect and alleviate stress. These are uncertain times. Document the experience and how you and your family handled the limitations.

Take a tech break – Silence your phone and step away from your computer for short breaks several times throughout each day. The news is constant and repeat exposure to statistics, warnings and worried friends can take a mental toll.

Enjoy a Nap – Anxiety and worry can keep people up at night. Take advantage of slower days by taking an afternoon nap. This luxury that most people rarely have time for can help you stay rested and healthy, while giving your mind a much needed break.
