Erika Ostrander

Erika Ostrander, LCPC, is the Clinical Director at Innovative Therapy. Erika is a bilingual Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor specializing in the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma,  PTSD and women’s mental health. She enjoys working with patients who are looking for a holistic approach and would like to incorporate psychological, emotional, and physical wellness into their lives. 

Erika earned her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Psychology and Counseling Education from Winona State University. She also earned a second master’s degree from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Clinical Counseling. Erika received training and supervision from The Illinois Institute of Art Counseling Center, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and Insight Behavioral Health. This experience allowed her to gain extensive experience treating anxiety, depression, dual diagnosis, eating disorders, trauma related to sexual violence, and PTSD.

Erika has been extensively trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), an effective evidence-based therapy used to help individuals learn essential skills like mindfulness, Interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and emotion regulation. In session, she uses a combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral (DBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), client centered and mindfulness.

Erika has experience treating diverse adult patients in her work at inpatient treatment programs, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient, academic counseling, and private practice settings. She spent the past 13 years conducting clinical and psychosocial research with at risk populations at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. 

Erika is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA). Additionally, she is currently obtaining certification for EMDR and ADHD Certified Clinical Service Provider (ADHD-CCSP)

Erika’s broad experience helps her better understand and relate to her clients. Her individual sessions are a secure place for clients to explore their personal struggles, fears, and life’s uncertainties.  She believes in approaching therapeutic relations as a collaborative effort to help her clients feel more connected in their relationships, more secure in themselves and their bodies, and more optimistic about their future. Erika encourages her clients to thrive not just survive. 

Erika’s approach is direct, compassionate and relatable. As clients learn new tools to navigate life and care for themselves, she gives honest feedback, challenges them to explore different perspectives, and helps clients find new meaning.
